  2. Without Guesswork 1972

Technical data for workshop use, covers August 1970 (1971 model year) through October 1972 (1973 model year), types 1, 2, 3, and 4, models imported to USA and Canada. Contains measurements, clearances, wear limits, performance data, etc -- lots of details for the detail people! 157 pages.

  3. Type II VW Parts Reference (1950-1954)

For "Barndoor" (large engine lid) split-window busses, this period, dealer manual contains diagrams and part numbers for every single factory part on the bus, including the special variants like the ambulance and pickup. Later editions may contain information that supersedes or supplements what is presented here. If you would like to contribute such information please see our contact page. 530 pages.

  4. Type II VW Parts Reference (1958-1967)

For post-barndoor era split-window busses, this period, dealer manual contains diagrams and part numbers for every single factory part on the bus, including the special variants like the ambulance and pickup. Later editions may contain information that supersedes or supplements what is presented here. If you would like to contribute such information please see our contact page. 750 pages.

  5. Progressive Refinements (1940-1961)

An internal VW book that documents the incremental changes to type 1/2/3 VWs from early production in 1940 until 1961. 150 pages.

  6. Progressive Refinements (1962-1968)

An internal VW book that documents the incremental changes to type 1/2/3 VWs from 1962 until 1968. 98 pages.

  7. SO-42 Camper Parts List

A parts list for the split-window SO-42 camper. I think that is all it covers, but I could be wrong. Please let me know about missing information as well. 58 pages.

  8. Solex: Selection and Tuning of the Carburetor

This manual from Solex describes how to calculate the correct size of carburetor for an engine (not just VW engines), and how to determine the correct jet sizes and settings. 46 pages.

  9. Local Manufacture of Workshop Equipment

This manual contains descriptions and blueprints for over 100 special tools for working on air-cooled VWs -- everything from a body trolley for Type 1s to a headlight bucket alignment jig for Type 34s. January 1959 edition, updated to September 1967. 381 pages.

  10. Damage Numbers (1965 ed.)

This manual was used by dealers to report the reasons they replaced Type 1, 2, or 3 parts under warranty. For parts that could come from more than one supplier, it shows how to identify the supplier via logo or other marking. It also has a section on sealing Type 1 and Type 3 bodies - I guess Buses didn't leak!

  11. Workshop Manual: Fresh Air Heaters

This manual covers Eberspacher gas heaters installed in several types of air-cooled Volkswagens. These units are relatively unsafe if not well looked after, so hopefully owners of these heaters will find this information useful.

  12. Troubleshooting Guide: BA-4 Gas Heaters

This manual covers troubleshooting of the BA-4 gas heater.
